10th of Muharram for Kids: Teach the Story of Prophet Musa (AS) and the Parting of the Sea
🌙 What Is the 10th of Muharram (Ashura)?
The 10th of Muharram, known as Ashura, is one of the most important and meaningful days in the Islamic calendar. It marks the day when Allah (SWT) saved Prophet Musa (AS) and the Children of Israel from Pharaoh’s army by parting the sea—a miracle that shows Allah’s power, mercy, and protection.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ told us that Prophet Musa fasted on this day to thank Allah. Our Prophet ﷺ also fasted on Ashura and encouraged his companions to do the same.
This makes Ashura a wonderful time to help children learn about this story—and the deep values it teaches—through storytelling, reflection, and hands-on learning.
🧒 Why Teach the Story of Prophet Musa to Kids?
Stories are one of the best ways to teach young children. The story of Prophet Musa (AS) offers timeless lessons that align beautifully with the meaning of Ashura:
📚 Use Barakah Blooms Two-Part Story Series to Teach the Story of Musa (AS)
We’ve created a two-part storytelling series (with video and slides) designed for Muslim children ages 4–10. It’s perfect for Muharram lessons at home, in the classroom, or in weekend school.
✅ Part 1: Baby Musa and Allah’s Protection
In this part, children learn how Musa’s mother put her baby in a basket and trusted Allah to protect him. The basket floated to the palace of Pharaoh, where his wife Asiya lovingly took him in—just as Allah promised.

✅ Part 2: The Sea Splits by Allah’s Power
This part tells how Prophet Musa became a messenger, returned to confront Pharaoh, and led Bani Israel to freedom. When they reached the sea and were trapped, Allah commanded Musa to strike it with his staff—and the sea parted so they could escape.

✂️ Craft Activity: Create a “Story Wheel” for the journey of Prophet Musa (AS)
To make the story more engaging and help kids remember the key moments, we’ve included a “Prophet Musa Story Wheel” activity. Children can cut, color, and spin through the different scenes of the story—from baby Musa in the basket to the miracle of the sea.
This is a fun and meaningful way to retell the story and reinforce what they’ve learned—great for visual and tactile learners.
