Allah Al-Wahed Al-Ahad

As Muslim parents, it’s important to make sure that our children have a deep understanding of Allah’s attributes. Two of the most fundamental and interconnected attributes are Al-Wahed and Al-Ahad. These names are essential for a Muslim’s faith, as they emphasize the unique oneness of Allah and His lack of any partners or equals.

Al-Wahed: The One and Only

The name Al-Wahed signifies that Allah is the only God, without any rivals or competitors. There is none like Him in His creation. This concept is central to Islam and is expressed in the Shahada, the declaration of faith: “There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is His Messenger.”

Al-Ahad: The Unique and Singular

Al-Ahad emphasises the unique nature of Allah. He is unlike anything else in existence. There is no one comparable to Him in His attributes, essence, or actions. This concept is beautifully illustrated in Surah Al-Ikhlas, which states: “Say, ‘He is Allah, the One and Only. Allah, the Eternal, the Absolute. He begets not, nor is He begotten. And there is none like Him.'”

The Connection Between Al-Wahed and Al-Ahad

The names Al-Wahed and Al-Ahad are closely related. Allah’s oneness (Al-Wahed) implies His uniqueness (Al-Ahad). Because He is the only God, He is necessarily unique. Similarly, His uniqueness implies His oneness. There is no other God to share His attributes or dominion.

Teaching Children These Names

Here are some ways to teach your children about Al-Wahed and Al-Ahad:

Use Simple Language: Explain these concepts in a way that is easy for children to understand. Use examples and stories to illustrate the meaning of these names.
Relate to Their Experiences: Connect the concepts of Al-Wahed and Al-Ahad to your child’s daily life. For example, you can explain that just as there is only one sun in the sky, there is only one God who created everything.
Recite Surah Al-Ikhlas: Teach your child to recite Surah Al-Ikhlas, which focuses on the attributes of Al-Ahad.
Discuss the Five Pillars of Islam: Explain how the belief in Al-Wahed and Al-Ahad is fundamental to the five pillars of Islam.

By teaching your children about Al-Wahed and Al-Ahad, you are helping them develop a strong foundation in their faith. These concepts will guide them throughout their lives and help them to connect with Allah in a meaningful way.
