Introducing our new lesson plan and accompanying presentation slides designed to help parents and teachers effectively teach Muslim children about the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This valuable resource focuses on understanding Prophet Muhammad as a role model and the significance of Sunnah in our lives, with a specific example of the Sunnah of sleeping.

What is the first pillar of Islam?

The first pillar of Islam is the declaration of faith: اشهد ان لا اله الا الله واشهد ان محمد رسول الله

This powerful statement translates to: “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.”

What’s the meaning of اشهد ان محمد رسول الله?

This part of the Shahada signifies our belief in the prophethood of Muhammad (ﷺ). It means that we believe he is the final messenger of Allah, sent to guide all of humanity. We should listen to his words, follow his example, and learn from his teachings.

Why Should Kids Learn About the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)?

By learning about the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), children can develop strong moral values, empathy, and a deep connection with their faith. They can learn:

Who is our Prophet: Muhammad (ﷺ) is the last prophet, sent to guide all people to Islam.
The Importance of Sunnah: The Sunnah provides practical guidance for daily life, from prayer and fasting to social interactions and ethical behavior.
The Beauty of Islam: By understanding the life of the Prophet (ﷺ), children can appreciate the beauty and peace of Islam.

What Does Sunnah Mean?

Sunnah refers to the practices and traditions of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). It includes his words, actions, and approvals.

Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) is my Role Model:

I love my Prophet and he is my model. He is the best. I will learn how he was sleeping, how he was eating, how he was speaking. I want to learn all about him to do like him. I’ll do his Sunnah.

The Sunnah of Sleeping:

One example of the Prophet’s Sunnah is his practice of sleeping on his right side. This simple act carries significant meaning. It promotes good health and circulation, and it is believed to be a way to show respect for the angels who guard us during sleep.
