Welcome, wonderful families, to another special learning corner at Barakah Blooms! Today, we are so excited to explore a beautiful and important topic: what it means to be a Muslim. Let’s embark on this journey of discovery together, Alhamdulillah!
“I am a Muslim” – What Does It Mean?
Being a Muslim means we are part of a wonderful global family that believes in Allah (SWT) and follows His guidance. It’s a special identity that fills our hearts with peace and purpose. When we say “I am a Muslim,” we are saying that we strive to please Allah in everything we do.
Our Guiding Stars: The Quran and Sunnah
So, how do we know what makes Allah happy? He has given us two very special resources to guide us:
- The Quran: This is the holy book of Muslims and contains the exact words of Allah (SWT). It’s our primary guide for living a good and righteous life.
- The Sunnah: This refers to the teachings, actions, and sayings of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). He is our role model, and his life shows us how to practice the teachings of the Quran.
To make sure our actions are right and permissible (Halal), we always turn to these two sources first.
What About New Things?
Sometimes, we might encounter new situations that aren’t directly mentioned in the Quran or Sunnah. When we’re unsure if something is Halal (permissible) or Haram (forbidden), we should seek knowledge from trusted sources. We can ask knowledgeable scholars or the Imam of our local masjid. They have dedicated their lives to understanding Islamic teachings and can provide us with guidance.
Living as a Muslim: Everyday Examples
Our faith guides us in all aspects of life, including what we eat and how we celebrate.
- What We Eat: The Quran tells us about the pure and good things Allah has provided for us. For example, it mentions the blessing of delicious fruits that He has created for us to enjoy. Conversely, the Quran also clearly tells us which foods to avoid, such as pork, to maintain our spiritual and physical well-being.
- How We Celebrate: As Muslims, we have two very special festivals, or Eids, to celebrate each year. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us that Allah has given us two days of celebration that are better than any others:
- Eid al-Fitr: The festival that marks the end of Ramadan.
- Eid al-Adha: The festival of sacrifice that coincides with the Hajj pilgrimage.
So, do Muslims celebrate Halloween? and what is the relation between Muslims and Halloween?
From what we learned, we can see that we do not participate in other celebrations like Halloween, as our special celebrations have been gifted to us by Allah.
You Are Special!
Being a Muslim is a special gift. It means we have a clear guide for our lives. Before we do anything, we can ask ourselves: Is this Halal or Haram? Will this make Allah (SWT) happy? This helps us make the best choices and live a life that is pleasing to Him.
Thank you for joining us on this beautiful exploration of our Muslim identity. May Allah continue to bless you and your families.
